Good Faith Estimate
Under the law, if you do not have insurance or are not using it, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of non-emergency medical items and services. This includes related costs like tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- Requesting Your Estimate: Ensure you receive a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your service. You can ask your provider for this estimate before scheduling any service.
- Disputing Bills: If your bill is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute it. Be sure to save a copy of your Good Faith Estimate.
